Welcome Class of 2012

Welcome to the pre-course for the PGCE Secondary history!

My name is Ruth Lee and, as tutor responsible for the PGCE History course, if you have been lucky enough to gain a place on the course I was one of the people who interviewed you at the University of Leicester. In a couple of months you will be joining us and you are welcome to browse this blog to find out a little about the course and preparations you need to make.

Some of this year's students are adding their comments as a valuable way for you to gain advice from those who are experiencing what you are about to.

This blog does not replace anything that is sent to you in the mail. It aims to add to that and to do so in a convenient format. You will receive large envelopes from us from early June onwards; do everything that is asked of you there especially returning forms without delay.

So, to get you started: Recommended texts Recommended Texts for the PGCE History Course.
The most recent textbook for training to teach History is Ian Phillips'Teaching History :Developing as a Reflective Secondary Teacher. The book is a companion to our core text for the course. Both are up to date and link to useful web based materials. You are required to acquire the core text to use for the Teacher Development Course and I strongly recommend Phillips' book. Please note the links here are to the publisher's website for information. You can buy the text books from any outlet - online or "real world." Shop around for the best price.
